Cadillac Recalls 2010 and 2011 SRX Due to Transmission Problems

An improperly installed transmission shift cable is the cause for GM's latest recall action that affects 15,817 Cadillac SRX crossovers worldwide, of which 8,789 units were sold in the United States.

The affected 2010 and 2011 model year Cadillac SRX vehicles were built from October 26, 2008, through June 23, 2011.

General Motors said that it became aware of the problem when it received a customer letter on June 22, 2011, alleging unintended vehicle motion in a 2011 SRX as the customer attempted to shift between Park and Drive and then back to Park.

GM May Redesign Volt's Battery, Puts Opel Ampera Sales on Hold

Providing a free loaner to Volt owners concerned about their car’s safety is all good and well – even better for some if the loaner is a Camaro or a Corvette.

However, General Motors, which is currently cooperating with the NHTSA to address the fire issues that ensued after the agency’s crash tests, may even go as far as redesigning its extended-range hybrid’s battery which is manufactured by South Korea's LG Chem.

2012 Dodge Journey, Fiat 500 recalled over contaminated brake fluid

Chrysler has issued a recall affecting a small number of 2012 Dodge Journey and 2012 Fiat 500 models built between October 24 and 26 of this year. These models – about 340 in total – are being recalled due to contaminated brake fluid that was put in during the vehicles' assembly. According to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, these vehicles "may experience a degradation of the sealing components within the brake system."

To solve the problem, Chrysler dealers will replace all of the vehicle's components that come in contact with the hydraulic braking fluid. Of course, this service will be done free of charge, and the official safety recall is expected to begin during the month of December. Follow the jump for NHTSA's official release.

GM to Provide Concerned Volt Owners with a Free Loaner after Fire Probe

General Motors is reaching out to Volt customers concerned that their vehicle's batteries might catch fire under certain circumstances after a crash, by offering them a free loaner car until the company resolves the issue.

The problem first arose in May when a Chevy Volt's lithium-ion batteries caught fire while the car was parked at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's [NHTSA] Winsconsin facilities, three weeks after it had been subjected to a side-impact crash test.

NHTSA Opens Formal Investigation on Chevy Volt and Li-ion Batteries after New Crash Tests Result in Fire

Earlier this year, a Chevrolet Volt caught fire while stationary at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Winsconsin facility car park, three weeks after it had been subjected to a side-impact crash test on May 12.

Alerted by the incident, General Motors and NHTSA repeated the test in June, but failed to replicate the fire. GM spokesman Greg Martin had said at the time that the fire was most likely caused because the agency staff had not followed the proper safety procedures mandated by the company for handling the Volt and its battery after an accident

Nevertheless, NHTSA joined forces with the Department of Energy and the Department of Defense, as well as General Motors, to determine the safety levels of the Volt’s lithium-ion batteries.

Rolls-Royce recalling 2010 Ghost over possible engine fires - Cars Pictures

2010 Rolls-Royce Ghost
No car is invincible to defects, and sometimes, even the folks in the highest tax bracket have to deal with vehicle recalls. The 589 lucky souls who purchased 2010 Rolls-Royce Ghost models manufactured between September 2009 and September 2010 will need to make a trip to the dealership (or at least send their butler or chauffeur), as the ultralux sedan is being recalled due to an electric auxiliary water pump that can overheat and potentially result in a fire.

Those of you paying close attention will note that BMW and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a recall for this exact problem earlier this week covering vehicles that use the automaker's turbocharged eight- and twelve-cylinder engines. The Ghost uses a reworked version of the twin-turbo V12 found in the BMW 760Li, and thus, is affected by this water pump problem.

Rolls-Royce will notify owners of this problem and a new auxiliary water pump will be installed free of charge. For the full details, follow the jump for NHTSA's official statement.

Sedan Jaguar XJ

When you're sitting behind the wheel of a new Jaguar XJ, it would appear that no rainy day could affect your mood. Well, except for those 6,475 U.S.-spec units manufactured between July 28, 2009 and November 3, 2010, on which the front wiper arms weren't sufficiently torqued during assembly. Consequently, Jaguar has issued a recall for the affected cars, according to a NHTSA press release.
