Tokyo Motor Show: Mitsubishi's Concept PX-MiEV II Plug-in Hybrid SUV [Updated]

At the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show that runs from November 30 through December 11, Mitsubishi unwraped the second generation of its Concept PX-MiEV, which brings the study a little closer to production.

Believed to preview the looks and possibly an alternative powertrain option for the next generation of the Mitsubishi Outlander, the Concept PX-MiEV II is a follow up to the PX-MiEV study displayed at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show.

On the outside, there are some minor styling changes such as the higher roofline, larger mirrors, plus more conventional looking alloy wheels, lights and bumper designs, all of which suggest that the PX-MiEV II is pointing to the styling of the next Outlander.

New Mitsubishi Mirage is a No Frills - Low Cost Entry in the Small Car Segment

You'd think that with the rise of the Korean auto industry, a troubled Japanese carmaker like Mitsubishi would up its game and even take some risks to gain a competitive edge.

Instead, Mitsubishi goes and creates the Mirage – quite possibly, the most bland looking city car in the market today…

But perhaps that was Mitsubishi's plan all along […] as the company claims that the design of the small subcompact model "was focused on compactness, affordability, and high fuel efficiency in order to fit the needs of emerging markets as an affordable entry-level model as well as needs of advanced markets for fuel efficiency and low-CO2 emission."

Rally Edition: From Hip, Hip Hurray to…Crash in a Blink of the Eye

As much as we'd like to think otherwise, you never know what's waiting for you around the next corner, as from one moment to the other, your perfect drive can go from stunner to bummer.

During a recent rally in Poland, the driver of a Mitsubishi Colt hatchback was coming fast on a narrow road when some spectators loudly cheered for him the precise moment he passed by.

We don't know if the driver was distracted or not, but a split second later his ride came to an abrupt end when he whammed into a brick fence. Hop over the break to watch the video for yourself.

Suzuki in Talks with Mitsubishi for the OEM Supply of MINICAB-MiEV

Leaving its problems with the Volkswagen Group momentarily on the side, Suzuki said on Tuesday that it is pursuing a deal with Mitsubishi regarding the supply of electric mini vehicles on an OEM (original equipment manufacturer) basis from February of next year.

If the two automakers reach an agreement, Mitsubishi will provide Suzuki with the new MINICAB-MiEV, a minicar-class light commercial electric van. The EV will be marketed under Suzuki's own brand name in Japan.

Mitsubishi President Confirms Next Lancer Evo with Hybrid Powertrain, May be Combined with Diesel

Mitsubishi President Confirms Next Lancer Evo with Hybrid Powertrain, May be Combined with Diesel

Perhaps the Maya were right and the world will come to an end in December 2012. In which case we’ll never get the chance to see what a Lancer Evolution hybrid-diesel looks like in 2015. But let's take it from the beginning. The hybrid part of the story is not just another one of those crazy rumors that pop up on the net. In fact, it is as official as it gets since it comes from the mouth of Mitsubishi president, Osamu Masuko.
Masuko revealed to British magazine Autocar that the next generation of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo will ditch the regular 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit, which has become a mainstay of the 10 previous versions, in favor of a hybrid powertrain.
That, in itself, is not a surprise: an electric motor was more or less expected due to the tightening emissions regulation. The real shocker is that the British magazine says there's a very good chance it won’t be a gasoline-electric hybrid, but rather a diesel-electric hydrid. A diesel powered Evo XI? Where exactly is this world heading to?
Masuko says has set specific targets and a quite tight timeline: “I have set the goal of developing a sporting car featuring electric power. We will start work on the project next year, and it will be ready within three”, he told Autocar.
The radical powertrain switch is being forced on Mitsubishi as the company needs to reduce CO2 emissions to less than 200 g/km, while still offering a sub-five seconds 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration.
Thankfully, the 11th version of the supercar-killing Evo won’t go all eco-friendly and thrill-free on us: it will still transmit torque to all four wheels through a new version of the awesome tarmac-hugging S-AWC four-wheel drive system.

New Gen Y Buyer Survey Spells Trouble for Detroit

Mazda was the third most visited brand for Gen Y buyers, though only 17th in terms of model. The top four vehicle choices were Japanese, with a German in seventh place and a South Korean in ninth.

Mercedes-Benz Tops Secret Shopper Study of U.S. Dealers, Lincoln Places Last in Luxury Segment

Mercedes-Benz dealers were number one for customer treatment in the US according to an independent study by survey company Pied Piper. The California-based company hired 3,524 “secret shoppers” and sent them to US dealerships in order to determine how their salesmen were performing in anything from explaining a car’s features to closing a deal.
This is the third year in a row that Mercedes-Benz, which looks set to top the sales charts this year in the luxury segment, has topped Pied Piper’s study.

Mitsubishi Evo X

The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, colloquially known as the Lancer Evo or Evo, is a high-performance sedan manufactured by Mitsubishi Motors. There have been ten official versions to date, and the designation of each model is most commonly a roman numeral. All use two litre, turbocharged engines and four-wheel drive systems.

Many aspects of the car were changed such as:

* The interior was upgraded in the GSR version with a better class of Recaro seat.
* The body kit had flared arches at the front and rear and a new aluminium rear spoiler replaced the IV FRP version and gave an adjustable angle of attack to alter rear down force.
* The track was widened by 10 mm (0.4 in), the wheel offset changed from ET45 to ET38 along with the wheel diameter which rose from 16" to 17" to accommodate Brembo brakes which were added to enhance braking.
* In addition the brake master cylinder bore increased by 0.3 millimetres (0.01 in).
* The engine was strengthened in a few areas and the cam duration was increased. The pistons were lighter with a smaller skirt area. 510 cc injectors were replaced with 560 cc injectors for better engine reliability due to more electrical "headroom" and the ECU was changed to include a flash ROM, allowing more boost pressure to the same TD05-HR as the Mitsubishi Evolution III and IV.

Furthermore, the turbocharger was again improved. Torque was increased to 373 N·m (275 lb·ft) at 3000 rpm. Power officially stayed the same, at 280 PS (206 kW; 276 hp), though some claim horsepower was actually somewhat higher.

Mitsubishi Pajero Sport

Production began in Japan in 1996, and was available for most export markets by 1997, where it was variously known as the Challenger, Pajero Sport in Europe, Montero Sport in North America and South America, Nativa in parts of Central America and the Middle East, Shogun Sport in the United Kingdom, and G-Wagon in Thailand. As its popularity increased, local assembly for foreign markets was introduced in China in 2003, and Brazil in 2006. Sales were discontinued in Japan in 2003, in North America in 2004 (where it was superseded by the Endeavor), and central and western Europe in 2008.The second generation of the vehicle, based on the ladder frame chassis of the Mitsubishi Triton, was gradually introduced to selected markets (Russia, south-east Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, Africa, and Oceania) through the autumn of 2008, following its debut at the Moscow Auto Salon. 2.5 or 3.2 litre diesel and 3.0 or 3.5 litre V6 petrol engines are available as before, while five- or seven-seat interior configurations are offered. As with the Triton pick-up on which it is based, production of the new Pajero Sport for all markets is concentrated in Thailand.
