The Aftermath of Utah Man's Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster Crash [Videos]

David Dopp earned his fifteen minutes of fame (or is that shame?) after he trashed a $380,000 Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster, only six-hours after he received the keys to the Italian supercar that he had won in a Maverik "Joe Schmo to Lambo" contest.

The story has been making headlines all over the world this week, and now we have some video footage of the aftermath from KSL and CNN.

Utah Man Wins Lamborghini Murcielago in Contest, Crashes it 6 Hours Later [Videos]

There are many reasons why only rich people buy supercars: it’s not just the price but the cost of living with, or repairing, one. It’s a risk any second-hand car buyer is taking, as our earlier story about a HUGE Ferrari F355 engine repair bill proves.

On the other hand, if someone actually offered you a supercar, let’s say a Lamborghini, for free would you actually turn it down? Of course not; you’d just grab the keys, buckle up in the driver’s seat and fire up the engine.

Well, that’s exactly what happened to David Dopp, a 34-year old truck driver living in Santaquin, a town of 9,000 residents near Salt Lake City, Utah. He won a US$358,000 Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster in a “Joe Schmo to Lambo” contest that was sponsored by Maverik convenience stores.

Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Laps the Hockenheim Circuit, Reaches 370km/h [230mph]

There's something about exotic supercars like the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 that gets our motors roaring. We never get tired of watching them no matter how many times we have seen them before.

We're not even going to count how many posts we've written on the 12-cylinder Raging Bull model - though if you're curious, feel free to check them all out here.

If you feel the same way, then you'll probably enjoy the video that follows and which comes to us courtesy of German car magazine Sport Auto. The publication took Lamborghini's flagship model over to the Hockenheim circuit in Germany to see how fast it is.

According to Lamborghini, the Aventador LP 700-4 comes equipped with a 6.5-liter V12 engine delivering 700HP and 509 lb-ft of torque for a 0-100 km/h (62mph) sprint time of 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 350km/h (218mph).

The four-and-a-half minute-long video clip has garnered more than 2.7 million views since it was uploaded on Youtube on August 6.

Tron's Legacy: Lamborghini Murcielago Receives an Overdose of LEDs

So, you want to see some more exotic supercars adorned in a parade of LED lights do you? Well, here you go. This Lamborghini Murcielago was evidently inspired from the movie Tron with the owner placing as many LEDs as possible, from the windshield surround to the doors, and from the engine vents behind the passenger compartment to under the rear diffuser.

You can take a look at the Troncielago for yourself in the video that follows below.

Close Call: Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Driver Almost Bumps Into an Audi Avant

Close Call: Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Driver Almost Bumps Into an Audi Avant

There are many good reasons why exotic supercar bloopers capture our attention. For one, these vehicles are extremely rare and cost a fortune to fix even for the smallest of damages. Another, less noble reason, could be that some of these gaffes make you feel better knowing that, even if you will never ever be able to afford such a ride, at least you won't make a fool out of yourself on film by trying to find the reverse gear, are unable to park or by being so careless or caught up with yourself that you didn't notice the Audi that was behind you…
Hat tip to Chris for the find!

Happy Thanksgiving from Everyone at Carscoop!

Here’s wishing to all of our readers and their families a happy and hearty Thanksgiving. Even in the case that you don't celebrate the day, perhaps you can still take a moment to acknowledge all the super-duper things that make your life and a little better and more pleasant – and hopefully we're one of them.

In lieu of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, we plan to take half the day off (okay, maybe a bit more) but we will resume our regular coverage of the daily automotive news and then some more on Friday, November 25.

We’ll send you off with the sounds of happiness: a compilation of new and old V12-powered Lamborghinis, which you can check out in the video after the break.
